Congratulations! You own a Lexus, one of the world’s top luxury automobiles delivering a posh, stylish interior and outstanding performance. As such, you want to take care of your new or used vehicle as much as possible because you love driving it on Vancouver roads.

Regular maintenance for your luxury sedan, coupe, or SUV is the key to keeping it in great shape. Learn more about tire maintenance with our handy guide.

Every Week: Look Over Your Lexus Tires

We recommend looking over all four tires at least once a week, such as when you get gas in Hillsboro, for the easiest part of Lexus tire maintenance. Please make sure the tires don’t look deflated or worn during this inspection.

Lexus Tire PSI Guide: Once Per Month

A monthly Lexus tire maintenance and inspection program goes a little more in-depth. We highly recommend checking the air pressure with a tire pressure gauge. One of these devices only costs a couple of dollars, and they’re easily available at auto stores in Portland and the surrounding areas. Plus, one of them fits easily into your glove box because they’re the size of a pen or pencil.

Checking your tire pressure only takes a few minutes, and it’s very easy to do. First, look for your vehicle’s recommended PSI on the panel of the driver’s side door. If you can’t find it there, look at the owner’s manual or driving information screen.

Follow these steps to correctly check the tire pressure of your Lexus:

  1. Make sure the tires are cold before you perform this task. If you just got back to your house, let the tires cool down for four hours before checking the tire pressure to get an accurate reading.
  2. Unscrew the tire valve cover.
  3. Keep the tire valve cover in a safe place so you don’t lose it.
  4. Insert the end of the tire pressure gauge onto the valve. The tire will let off a tiny bit of air, and the tire pressure gauge will move.
  5. Look at the reading to see the tire pressure.
  6. If the reading is low, add more air to your Lexus tire, gradually in short bursts, until the tire pressure is correct.

If this problem persists, consider bringing your Lexus in for service to our shop. In general, the overall Lexus tire pressure varies by model, which is in the next section of our guide.

Lexus Tire PSI Guide: Recommended Tire Inflation

These Lexus tire pressure numbers for popular models are listed in pounds per square inch (PSI).

  • Lexus NX: 32 psi
  • Lexus RX: 33 to 35 psi
  • Lexus GX: 32 psi
  • Lexus LX: 33 psi
  • Lexus LC: 33 psi
  • Lexus RC: 36 psi
  • Lexus UX: 33 to 36 psi
  • Lexus ES: 33 to 35 psi
  • Lexus LS: 36 psi

Checking the air pressure is just one part of Lexus tire maintenance. You should also look over your tire treads for wear.

How to Check Lexus Tire Tread With a Penny

A ruler is the most accurate way to measure tire tread depth. However, a penny will suffice when you’re out and about in Portland or on your next driving adventure.

These are the steps to check the tread depth on your tires with a penny:

  1. Insert the penny with Lincoln head-first (head down) into a tire tread groove that shows the most wear.
  2. Is Lincoln’s head covered and no longer visible between the grooves?
  3. If you can see the entirety of Lincoln’s head, your tire treads are 2/32 inches deep or less. This is a sign your tires do not have enough tread left. Replace the Lexus tire as soon as possible before you have a blowout, which could cause an accident.

How to Check Lexus Tire Tread Wear Using Other Means

Checking your tires with these next methods is more accurate but equally as effective as a penny. We’d be happy to show you how to do this!

  • Tread Depth Gauge: Purchase a tread depth gauge from any Portland-area auto parts store. Insert the probe into the shallowest tread groove. Then, press the top bar of the gauge flat against the tire to see the tread wear rating.
  • Tread Wear Bars: Most tires have tread wear indicator bars built into them. You can find them at the bottom of the tread grooves throughout the tire. If the colored bars are flush with the surrounding tire ribs, the tread depth has reached 2/32 of an inch or less.
